La rappresentazione continua fino all'arrivo della madre e all'arrivo di questa nella casa del padre con i tre figli. Nell'ultima scena, per cui è allestito un giardino, la madre scopre la bambina affogata nella vasca e, presa da orrore, scorge dietro un albero la figura del giovinetto che, con occhi da pazzo e una rivoltella nascosta nella tasca, ha assistito alla scena. All'improvviso parte un colpo di rivoltella e il grido di disperazione della madre. Allo sconcerto degli attori, che non sanno se il ragazzo sia morto o meno, il padre grida la verità di quegli avvenimenti.
